SIP returns table

These tables answer the most common SIP question in one look: "if I invest this much every month, what could it become?" Every figure is worked out with the standard SIP formula, assuming the instalment is invested at the start of each month and the return stays constant. Real returns move up and down, so treat these as planning estimates, not promises. For any other amount, use the SIP calculator.

SIP maturity value at 10% a year
| Monthly SIP | 5 years | 10 years | 15 years | 20 years | 25 years | 30 years |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹1,000 | ₹78,082 | ₹2.1 L | ₹4.2 L | ₹7.7 L | ₹13.4 L | ₹22.8 L |
| ₹2,000 | ₹1.6 L | ₹4.1 L | ₹8.4 L | ₹15.3 L | ₹26.8 L | ₹45.6 L |
| ₹3,000 | ₹2.3 L | ₹6.2 L | ₹12.5 L | ₹23.0 L | ₹40.1 L | ₹68.4 L |
| ₹5,000 | ₹3.9 L | ₹10.3 L | ₹20.9 L | ₹38.3 L | ₹66.9 L | ₹1.14 Cr |
| ₹10,000 | ₹7.8 L | ₹20.7 L | ₹41.8 L | ₹76.6 L | ₹1.34 Cr | ₹2.28 Cr |
| ₹15,000 | ₹11.7 L | ₹31.0 L | ₹62.7 L | ₹1.15 Cr | ₹2.01 Cr | ₹3.42 Cr |
| ₹20,000 | ₹15.6 L | ₹41.3 L | ₹83.6 L | ₹1.53 Cr | ₹2.68 Cr | ₹4.56 Cr |
| ₹25,000 | ₹19.5 L | ₹51.6 L | ₹1.04 Cr | ₹1.91 Cr | ₹3.34 Cr | ₹5.70 Cr |
| ₹50,000 | ₹39.0 L | ₹1.03 Cr | ₹2.09 Cr | ₹3.83 Cr | ₹6.69 Cr | ₹11.40 Cr |
Compare the two tables: the same ₹10,000 a month for 30 years is ₹3.53 crore at 12% but ₹2.28 crore at 10%. Two percentage points, held for decades, change the result by more than a third. That is why it is sensible to plan at a cautious return.
How much you actually put in
| Monthly SIP | 10 years | 20 years | 30 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹1,000 | ₹1.2 L | ₹2.4 L | ₹3.6 L |
| ₹5,000 | ₹6.0 L | ₹12.0 L | ₹18.0 L |
| ₹10,000 | ₹12.0 L | ₹24.0 L | ₹36.0 L |
Over 30 years at 12%, ₹36 lakh of your own money grows to about ₹3.53 crore. Most of the final value comes from the last ten years of compounding, which is why stopping early costs so much.

For your own target, years and return, including a yearly step-up, use the target SIP calculator. If your target is priced in today's money, inflate it first with the inflation calculator.
How these numbers are calculated
Each table uses the SIP future value formula:
Value = P × [((1 + r)n − 1) ÷ r] × (1 + r)
where P is the monthly SIP, r the yearly return divided by 12, and n the number of monthly instalments. Tax, exit loads and the fund's expense ratio are not deducted separately; the assumed return is taken as the return after the fund's costs.
Questions people ask
What will ₹5,000 a month in SIP become in 10 years?
About ₹11.6 lakh at an assumed 12% a year, or about ₹10.3 lakh at 10%. You would invest ₹6 lakh of that yourself.
What will ₹10,000 a month in SIP become in 20 years?
About ₹99.9 lakh at 12% a year, or about ₹76.6 lakh at 10%. You would invest ₹24 lakh yourself.
How much SIP do I need for ₹1 crore?
At 12% a year: about ₹43,041 a month for 10 years, ₹19,819 for 15 years, ₹10,009 for 20 years, ₹5,270 for 25 years or ₹2,833 for 30 years.
Are SIP returns guaranteed?
No. Mutual fund returns depend on the market and can be negative in some years. These tables show what happens at a steady assumed return; actual results will differ.
Which return should I use for planning?
Many planners use 10 to 12% a year for diversified equity funds over long periods, and check the plan at the lower figure as well. Past returns do not guarantee future returns.
